| History Company History Owner Jake Deal brings both practical and theoretical experience to Ideal Design / Build Inc. Jake has spent 13 years developing his expertise in custom fabrication. Past projects include the design and fabrication of distinct furniture, exhibits, displays and architectural millwork. His list of clients include the Royal Ontario Museum, Mill Street Brewery, 3rd Uncle Design Inc., The Drake Hotel, CARGO Cosmetics Corp., Flowers by the Dozen, Cityscape Holdings Inc. - The Distillery Historic District and numerous private patrons. Educated at Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, Jake has developed a comprehensive understanding of design intent, colour and form. Jake's appreciation of the aesthetic combined with an understanding of machining methods yield effective interpretation of a design, bringing it to physical form as intended and expected by the client. In addition to his personal business, Jake works in partnership with all·a·board youth ventures inc., a private, not for profit charitable organization that creates small businesses to train and employ at-risk youth. Jake is responsible for designing and running the curriculum and overseeing production in The Wood Shop, a downtown manufacturer of furniture and wood products opened in 1998. Jake's mandate at The Wood Shop is to prepare youth for future, long-term employment by providing them with basic technical skills through training. He is responsible for instructing and supervising 6 youth while providing guidance, support and encouragement. The program concludes with employment placement and follow-up. Jake's personal interests include refurbishing vintage Citroens from which he has developed a great understanding of mechanics which he has applied to his trade in the past, when kinetic designs demand the incorporation of mechanical, electronic, and hydraulic solutions. |
