The Perfect Easter Table

With Easter fast approaching, I have been starting to think about tablescapes–  what pieces I already have and what items would be great to add at this time of year.  Easter is March 31st this year.  I always feel thrown off when it’s not in April so I am trying to take a quick accounting of what I already have and what I may want to add this year.  Regardless of the timing, thank goodness for Amazon Prime.

How to Plan Your Table

First I like to start off with gathering inspiration photos.  It is so fun to see what other talented people have done and see what your personality leans towards.  Whether designing a home or a tablescape, I always suggest you look for patterns in the photos that you love.  Do you keep seeing the same color over and over again in the images that you have pinned? The same type of charger or platter? Napkins? Tablecloth? Oftentimes people tell me they do not know what they want but when we look together and see what patterns are coming up over and over again it is easy to see.

Then I like to gather what I already have.  I like to lay it all out on the island and really place pieces next to each other and see how what I already own is fulfilling the roles in the inspiration images I just gathered.  I can’t do this from memory. It’s amazing how short term our memories are (I’m blaming that one my kids wink). But you’ll likely be able to see how things can come together when you really start laying it out.

Lastly, I search for pieces I want to add.  Even though it is tempting to start here, try not to.  Those pieces you already own and use repeatedly will likely serve as a lasting memory for your family members.  That is why we suggest buying pieces that will last a long time and that you truly love, not just impulse bought.  I couldn’t tell you 5 of the gifts I received as a child from holidays but I love to look at my mom’s and grandmother’s dishes (even the cheap ones) because they were there every year and remind me of the gatherings we had and of each woman’s personality.
